Low Poly Art Design

Written by: Niraj Kumar Maurya

BEWARE!! You might fall in love with this digital art technique, as it is visually beautiful and fun to make. So let’s jump into ‘the world made of triangles’ which is also called low poly art. Don’t worry, it’s not necessary that it should be made in 3D software’s; it can be made in both 3D supportive software’s and also in 2D software’s like Illustrator and Photoshop. Low poly term has arrived from 3D software’s where high poly (polygon) count gives a good smooth surface, whereas low poly (polygon) count gives an edgy and many plane surfaces to the 3D model.

As mentioned before low poly art mainly consists of triangles. Just like for every innovation, to begin with low poly art, build an idea or download an image from the internet. Install the software’s needed if you don’t have. Now you can begin with the steps below:

  • Bring the sketch or the image of your idea in the software

  • Create the triangular outlines on the image using the pen tool in Illustrator or Photoshop

An easy way to break down the triangle distribution is based on the level of detail you want to give. For example, foreground objects get more triangles while background objects get less. It is also a good habit to zoom out every once in a while and view your art piece as a whole so you can give it a uniform level of detail.

  • Now the fun begins with the triangles. Start making triangles on the outline created. Quick Tip: Using color picker, quickly form a palette for your piece using complementary yet diverse bunch of colors.

  • Your finished product might look like this…

  • You can also convert the background using the same method.

Add some sparkling effects if you like and you can make your art more beautiful.

How recent trends are reforming the gaming industry?

Game TrendsTechnology evolves at rapid speed. If you need any real proof of the advancement of digital technology over the years, take a quick look at the gaming industry. From the very early years of black-and-white 2D games like Pong of 1972 to the first 3D game, 3D Monster Maze of 1981 to complex, life-like shooters like Battlefield 3 (2011), there’s no doubt that the gaming industry has seen its fair share of technological evolution.

This year’s annual game developer conference which was held in Brighton was especially focused on virtual reality. The subject matter of this huge conference covers one-man studios to giant developers, business managers to graphic artists targeting to highlight current trends. Last year, the focus was totally on social media, spectator-ship but VR dominates entirely this year. As Brighton’s conference, we have listed down few trends of current gaming industry which are changing the world of games.

VR and AR have really taken off. Virtual reality (VR) has started to reappear in the gaming industry. Virtual Reality specifies the high-end user interface that involves real-time simulation and interactions through multiple sensorial channels. It has slowly started integrating with gaming. This little head mounted display will make a difference in how VR integrates with gaming. Imagine being able to play cricket in a stadium, instead of just watching it from a 2D isometric or top down view. Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality are already getting investments from companies, but it may take a while before the gaming audience embraces these technologies. For instance, Samsung and HTC are banking on VR, but pricing may discourage gamers to use it. Though the market is still narrow, according to Venture Beat, 234 VR companies have raised over $3.8 billion in funding.

Game Trends 2On other hand, seeing your actual physical environment, in Augmented Reality you will be fed with additional information or data overlay, digitally, in real-time. One good example of AR in action will be the mobile app, Wikitude. Holding up your smart phone and pointing towards your surroundings, the screen reveals nearby ATMs, restaurants, hotels, etc for your navigation. The recent popular game, Pokemon Go was also an AR-based game.

With more reliable and faster internet connections, the technology of cloud computing has begun to gain some momentum. Will Wright embraces the idea of cloud gaming as a crucial part of the future of the industry. For one thing, the gaming industry sees it as an opportunity to make games as easy to access as music and movies. With Cloud Gaming, we need not wait forever to get updates to high-quality games. It’s all in the cloud and all we have to do is connect to it with a stable internet connection and play to our heart’s content. Games will also be cheaper and more easily accessible via computers and even tablets.

Unboxing the HTC Vive VR

Time for an eye break! Can you remember the ‘holodeck’ from ‘Star Trek’? You can just simply create your ‘holodeck’ in your room with HTC Vive. Virtual reality is one thing, but a whole room that can come alive and be your space is a different type of spatial magic. Recreating the reality virtually grabs a boxful set of the device with more than 10 pieces inside. The partnership between HTC and Valve is finally shipping for Vive virtual reality. Unlike other tech gadgets, HTC Vive comes with lots of peripherals. The Vive box is massive, and contained within is everything you need to get hooked with and have a good time.

We have got an HTC Vive in our house. Here is the sneak peak of Vive for you. Check out our HTC Vive Unboxing!

HTC Vive runs on high-end gaming PCs. It’s tethered with long cables that run to that PC. But Vive also adds the hardware to interact with spaces with your hands and to walk around too. Pair of motion controllers and two light-emitting boxes turn a space of your own into a mapped grid.

The key components are the headset with the audio and video support, controllers, and the base stations (sensors). To support these three are an array of sync cables, HDMI cables, USB cables, adapters, Link box, mounting kits and mounting pads and chargers.

The headset also comes with lens controller where you can set your lens power for a perfect visualization. Coming to the base station, it acts as the sensors and while setting these two, they should be kept 5 meters away from each other (best is to position them in opposite corners in your space) and it should be mounted high above the player’s head for accurate tracking. HTC also provides two brackets for mounting the base stations. One special feature is that you can set up the angle of the base stations with brackets.

As soon as you’ll plug in the power point of the base station it will turn green and will show ‘b’ and ‘c’ in those two base stations which are the indicators. But if it shows purple colors, that indicates the set up is wrong. And if you don’t have enough space to keep base stations facing each other, you can connect them with a sync cable and just need to change the channel with the ‘channel’ button. Next, comes the controllers. Two controllers of Vive are pretty much handy and light to play with.

Now finally through Link box, you can connect the device to your PC. Then you need to install Valve Steam VR setup into your system which helps you to check if your devices are connected properly or not. As soon as you install it, it will ask you for setting up room scale which can be done through your controller to choose how much space you want as your playing arena. Again you need to locate the floor and for it to locate, just keep the controller on the ground, it’ll calibrate the floor.

Now, you are all set to jump into the virtual reality!

Nintendo’s Super Mario Run on iPhone

Nintendo is expanding its domain into mobile platforms with the launch of Super Mario Run on iPhone

“The magic of Mario is anyone can pick up and start playing, and now we’ve made it even easier”, asserted Miyamoto.

Remember what happened to the Super Mario Bros in 1985? This video game had sold enormously well and grabbed the best-selling game genre of all time for a single platform for approximately three decades at over 40 million units. Who doesn’t love to play Mario? Mario, Nintendo’s iconic character who jumps his clenched first aimed skyward breaking the bricks. Remember the minus? world of the Super Mario Bros, probably the best thing ever happened to any video game!

For all Mario lovers, the biggest franchise in the gaming industry, Nintendo, announced its first-time mobile debut on Apple’s iOS with Super Mario Run on 7th of September, 2016. Get the new Mario game by this December. While Tim Cook was covering a presentation for iPhone7, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto grabbed the stage at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco with him to reveal this coming game and to represent the next step of Nintendo’s expansion in mobile platforms. It will be available on Apple app store in more than 100 different countries and nine different languages. Prior to this announcement, Apple debuted a brand new App Store feature just to keep players in the loop: a new “Notify” button. You can click this button on the game’s page on the App Store in order to be alerted when the game becomes available for download.

Super Mario Run

“Since the launch of the App Store someone has been missing on the App Store, but I’m glad to say, he’s arrived now”, quoted Cook.

Therefore, the brainchild of Shigeru Miyamoto is back with a new running show with an old touch. It is an endless runner title with the same graphical style used for Mario for decades, and plays similar to long-term iOS titles ‘Canabalt’ or ‘Jungle Run’. Users just have to tap on the screen to make Mario jump to avoid obstacles, strike objects, and clear gaps. The longer you run, the more coins you collect, and you can simply finish the race by getting to the flag at the end. You’ll also need to jump over obstacles and avoid enemies before capturing the flag pole to complete the level. But the gamers will be able to take the advantage of single player mode to avoid obstacles and collect coins simultaneously. On other hand, there are other two modes; async one is a battle mode where you can compete with your friends and in another mode you can create your own mushroom kingdom base on your play results, like how many coins you have collected.

According to Nintendo, a portion of the game will be made available for free, but you’ll have to pay a set purchase price in order to access all the game’s content. But, don’t worry, it will not continue to cost money the more you play.

Miyamoto concluded with “I love hardware platforms and Nintendo will continue to make our own hardware but what’s changed is that there was a time when Nintendo’s platforms were the most popular in the world and now we see smartphones are the most popular device in the world. So we’ll keep looking for opportunities in smartphones and when we see them we’ll design something specifically for that hardware.”

Undead Demolition: An uncommon Zombie Horde Survival Game

undead demolition unity3d game

Get tired of killing zombies? Then come and play Undead Demolition and enjoy an enticing zombie safari experience. This game is set in a dystopian post-apocalyptic world where the world is a massacre with zombies. This is post-Apocalyptic Zombie Horde Survival Game which combines military grade weapons and zombies in an arena style battle. Unlike the most other horde survival games where you would face off with trivial handheld weapons, here you’ll have access to vehicles including military and civilian.

As soon as you’ll enter the world of Undead Demolition, you’ll be amazed by the gameplay and the graphics and there are three different environments (downtown, seabed, and carter) to explore. You’ll also be having multiple cars and weapons including military grade heat seeking missiles and atomic bomb to trash the zombies. You can earn whenever you’ll kill a zombie. You can purchase many items for a game such as gold, multiplicator cards, lives, nukes and especially the vehicles as well. These vehicles had been designed with the Car physics which boosted its architecture.

Unity game developers created this game with Unity 3D in a rigorous development methodology.

Playing this survival game involves a thrilling experience. You really need to take a nose drive to avoid the zombies latching onto you. The other interesting thing about this game is the way combat works. Instead of being a dual stick shooter or handling combat in a way that has a ton of action, it plays closer to something complete with action points and turns. In short, to survive you need kill as much as zombies you can, even the vehicle tank is stand-off weapon to firepower.
