CASE STUDY : FUTURE STATES

Multiplayer Cross-Platform Game

The future States is a multiplayer strategy war games. The futuristic war is carried out between 8 superpowers, 62 land territories, and 48 Sea zones. Using 9 different military units, financial & technology resources, players conquer the enemy territories by destroying opponent armies and capturing their cities.

APPROACH

The Future States is technically designed based on Master-Slave architecture, wherein server-side acts as a master and client-side as a slave.

TECHNOLOGY:

  • MySQL
  • Memcache
  • Lighttpd

CHALLENGES:

  • UX – Flow
  • Real-time Gameplay
  • Speed & Security

UX- FLOW:

Understanding different phase functionalities and relating them to the UI on screen was a bit challenging. With our UX design process, we could deliver a high level of legibility, avoiding reciprocation of screens with a minimal amount of scroll & pan thus providing the much better user experience.

REAL-TIME GAMEPLAY:

The Future States works on synchronized & turn-based game play system. The drawback with the turn-based system was that the user had to wait until phase completion of other players. We overcame this drawback by having an option to play the game at run-time with other users.

SPEED & SECURITY:

Speed & security is one of the important mechanisms in this game, with quick processing requests. Using Light- https on Fast -CGI Mod, Memcache , PHP opcode caching with encrypted data transfer between client & server we reduced response time without compromising the performance.
